About
The Skyline Trailhead in Durango provides access to a moderate trail system on Raider Ridge, part of the Fort Lewis College trail network. The primary route is an out-and-back hike that climbs switchbacks to a viewpoint offering 360-degree views of Durango, the Animas Valley, and Horse Gulch. Hikers can extend the route by looping into the Horse Gulch trail system or connecting via the Sugar trail. The trail surface is dirt, and conditions are generally dry in the fall, though late November may bring occasional snow. Parking is available at the Skyline subdivision near the end of Jenkins Ranch Road. The area is open to hiking, biking, and dogs, with dogs required to be on leash. Restrooms are noted at the trailhead in some sources. The trail is suitable for visits from September through November.
