About
Smuggler Mountain Road - Upper Section is a moderate mountain biking route in Aspen, Colorado. The trail follows a dirt and gravel jeep road that climbs steeply up Smuggler Mountain. Riders encounter rocky sections in the middle of the route, which can require hike-a-bike segments. The road is open to motor vehicles, but traffic is light, consisting mostly of occasional motorcycles. At the top, the terrain becomes less steep, allowing for faster riding on the descent or continued access to Warren Lakes and Benedict Huts. The trail offers views of Aspen, the ski areas, and the Elk Mountains from an observation deck near the lower section. Parking is available at the trailhead. The route is pet friendly and accessible from April through October, depending on snow conditions.
