About

The South Rim Extension is a 0.3-mile hiking shortcut in Durango, Colorado, located near the Grand View Ridge area. It serves as a flatter alternative to the main South Rim Trail, cutting across a mostly level mesa rather than following the cliff edge. The trail is newly constructed, smooth, and partially shaded. It saves elevation gain and distance compared to the proper South Rim Trail. The trailhead is at 6,759 feet. Parking is available. The route is accessible year-round and is considered easy. Dogs are allowed but must be leashed.
