Sticky Sap

Sticky Sap is a single top-rope climbing route located in Deadwood Gulch, near Silverton on Colorado's Western Slope. The climb is rated 5.10a/b and features crimpy quartzite holds on a slabby, ledgy face. It sits immediately to the right of an offwidth feature and stands approximately 35 feet high. The area is accessible year-round, with prime climbing conditions typically occurring from June through October. While the region experiences high elevations ranging from 9,000 to over 13,000 feet, Sticky Sap itself is situated at an elevation of roughly 9,482 feet within the gulch. Parking is available nearby along the Million Dollar Highway. Climbers must navigate an access issue involving private property. A gate marks the boundary, which is bolted closed and marked no trespassing. However, local guidance indicates that low-key rock climbers are permitted to enter and climb without issue. The route requires standard top-rope protection, with a bolt located in the adjacent chimney or a girth hitch on a bush at the scamper ledge. The first ascent was made by Matthias Holladay.
