About
Sunshine Campground is a single-loop, paved campground located on Highway 145 in the Uncompahgre National Forest, approximately seven miles south of Telluride. Situated at 9,584 feet elevation within a dense aspen forest, the site offers views of Sunshine Peak and features a small mountain lake. The campground contains 15 campsites with maximum spur lengths of 35 feet, making it accessible for smaller vehicles. Facilities include compost or vault toilets, metal tables, fire grates, and trash service. A resident camp host is present during the open season, which runs from mid-May through mid-September. Water availability has been inconsistent and was reported as unavailable for the 2025 season, though potable water sources may be nearby. The site operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations accepted and nightly fees ranging from $10 to $20. Pets are generally permitted, though some recent reports note restrictions. The location provides direct access to the Magic Meadows hiking trail and nearby bike trails, with dispersed camping options like Wild Boy Lake Road available within a few miles. Highway traffic noise is audible during the day but typically subsides after 10 p.m.
