    About

The Mines of Moria is a 5.7 YDS R trad, 45 ft (14 m) located in Montrose > Dry Creek Crag > Left Side. First ascent by Herder, Curtis Beutler, Nov. 2024. This crack feature has always been reference to find the routes to its left & right, but no brave soul has ever had the heart to give this thing a proper lead. Locate the wide, intimidating crack between two 5.8s on the far left side. Start by crawling into the "ancient, subterranean, squeeze complex". It pinches down where you can go through or outside (labyrinthine network of tunnels). Once past this, use face holds and offwidth technique to climb up. Although it is easy, some of the rock is friable/easily mine-able, so tread lightly. Top out in the chasm where you will see daylight once again. Protection: It is on the far left side next to the steep, overhang/arete. This is a dirty, wide crack >:)
