Tilman Bishop State Wildlife Area is a 100-acre habitat located on the south bank of the Colorado River in Palisade, Western Slope. The site offers moderate fall hiking with an elevation ranging from 4,670 to 4,801 feet. Visitors typically spend about two hours exploring the area during the open season of September through November. Access requires a valid Colorado Parks and Wildlife hunting or fishing license, or a State Wildlife Area pass for individuals aged 16 and older. The area is closed to public access from March 15 through July 15 to protect wildlife. Hikers must enter via Hwy 6 East from Palisade, cross the river, and turn south onto 38 Road. The route continues on F 1/4 Road across a canal, with an immediate right leading to the parking area. The trails are unimproved dirt paths suitable for walking, biking, and photography. Parking is available near the entrance. The site is pet-friendly and allows dogs on leashes. While hunting occurs with reservations, hikers can visit independently. Restrooms are available at the site. The area is known for birdwatching and wetland views, with Grand Valley vistas visible from the trails. There are no significant crowds compared to larger state parks.
