Trail 409

Trail 409, also known as Farris Creek Trail, is a challenging mountain bike route located near Crested Butte and Gunnison, Colorado. The trail spans approximately 4.7 miles and reaches an elevation of roughly 10,123 feet. It is rated as difficult, with about 1.5 miles of extremely rocky and technical terrain that may require riders to walk their bikes. The route opens early in the season and typically remains rideable from April through October. Access begins by riding south from town to Cement Creek Road, then continuing up to Walrod Gulch Road. Riders turn left onto Walrod Gulch Road, pass one left spur, and connect to Trail #418 (Walrod Cutoff Trail). From there, the trail climbs to a sign pointing right to #409. The trail climbs steadily before descending steeply to avoid private property, then rolls through aspens and rock gardens down into the Farris Creek drainage. Riders can climb out of the drainage on an old road and drop down to Brush Creek Road. Parking is available, and the trail is pet-friendly.
