About
United Campgrounds of Durango is a family-owned facility located on the banks of the Animas River, approximately 4 miles north of downtown Durango. The site operates seasonally from mid-April through mid-October, with specific park hours listed as May 1 to October 15. The campground is bisected by the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, allowing campers to view trains passing directly through the property. It offers over 100 level RV sites with full hookups, including water, electric, and sewer connections, as well as over 90 grassy, shaded tent sites. Amenities include clean restrooms, hot showers, an outdoor pool, and free Wi-Fi. A city trolley stop sits across from the entrance, providing free rides to downtown Durango during the summer. The park is pet-friendly with a two-dog limit and requires pets to be on leashes. Unlike many campsites, wood-burning campfires are not permitted; propane and charcoal grills are allowed. The terrain is flat, making it accessible for various vehicle types, with RVs up to 60 feet accommodated. The moderate difficulty reflects the ease of access and site layout rather than rugged terrain.
