Unknown Flake is a rock climbing area located on Grand Mesa in Western Colorado. The site sits at an elevation of 5,699 feet and is classified as difficult. Climbers access the area via parking available on-site. The location is pet friendly, allowing dogs on the trails and at the crag. Climbing conditions vary by season, with potential snow and ice during winter months and warmer temperatures in summer. The area remains accessible year-round from January through December. Grand Mesa is a prominent landform capped by hard volcanic basalt, which protects the softer sedimentary rocks underneath. The present-day remnant of the mesa is approximately 53 square miles with a Y-shaped outline. The basalt is highly fractured, but occasional large volcanic flow events created steep walls with quality rock for climbing. Access to the area is primarily from Grand Junction, reachable by driving east on I-70 to Exit 49 and south on CO Highway 65, or by heading south from Grand Junction on US Highway 50 past Whitewater and east on Kannah Creek Road to the Land's End Area.
