Upper Bear Creek Falls is a rock climbing destination located in the Bear Creek Preserve, just south of Telluride on Colorado's Western Slope. The site features routes suitable for climbers with moderate skill levels, including traditional and sport climbs, as well as ice climbing options in the lower gorge. The preserve encompasses approximately 381 acres of public land managed by the San Miguel Conservation Foundation and the Town of Telluride. Access is via the Bear Creek Trail, which begins at the southern end of South Pine Street in Telluride. The trail follows an old roadbed with a low gradient, leading into the valley. Climbers can reach the lower ice flows in about 20 minutes or continue approximately 2.5 miles to the main falls area. Parking is available on-site, though it can be limited during peak times. The site is pet-friendly and allows dogs on leashes. While the area offers year-round access, winter conditions may require specific gear for ice climbing. The primary rock routes are located near the 80-foot Upper Bear Creek Falls, set against granite walls in the San Juan Mountains.
