Vega Trail

The Vega Trail is a 2.49-mile out-and-back hiking route on the northeast edge of Grand Mesa, near Collbran in Western Colorado. The trail is graded as easy and typically takes about one hour to complete. It largely follows the west and northern shores of Vega Reservoir, offering fishing access and wildlife viewing opportunities. The area features lush montane meadows filled with wildflowers and aspen-covered slopes. Elevation at the trailhead is approximately 8,000 feet, with a total elevation change of about 2456 feet. Parking is available at the trailhead, and leashed dogs are permitted. The trail is accessible year-round, with activities including cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in winter. The park operates daily from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., with an entrance fee of $4 for individual daily passes or $10 to $15 for a vehicle pass. Fire restrictions may apply, prohibiting open fires in developed areas.
