About
Vulgar Display of Power is a trad climbing route located in Palisade, Colorado, on the Western Slope. The route is a 220-foot single pitch with a Grade II rating, described as long and sustained but easier than the adjacent 'Rusty Cage' climb. First ascended by Steven Van Sickle and Jay Smith, the climb features a mix of protection: the first bolt is located 50 feet up, requiring climbers to bring thin pins, nuts, and small cams for the initial section. Above the first bolt, the route relies on bolts leading to the second belay of 'The Ribbon'. Climbers should bring at least 18 to 20 quickdraws. The area sits at an elevation of 5,160 feet and offers parking. Access requires yielding to mining vehicle traffic on Camp Bird Road, where mining operations by Revenue and Camp Bird Mines have resumed. Rockfall and icefall are noted hazards. The area is pet-friendly and accessible year-round.
