The trailhead sits 6.5 miles southwest of Aspen on Maroon Creek Road, accessible via Highway 82. Elevation reaches 9,613 feet along the path, with the pass itself at 12,500 feet. The trail is open from September through November, coinciding with the fall hiking season. Parking is available at the Maroon Lake Parking Area and Schofield Park. Restrooms are located at the trailhead, and pets are permitted on the trail. The moderate difficulty reflects steady inclines and uneven terrain, requiring sturdy footwear. In mid-June through September, Maroon Creek Road closes between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., requiring shuttle access from Ruby Park in Aspen. The trail offers views of the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness and wildflower meadows.
