DetailsThe North Fruita Desert Campground, commonly referred to as 18 Road, sits at the base of the Book Cliffs just outside Loma, Colorado. This 111-site facility serves as the primary hub for mountain bikers seeking access to the famous 18 Road trail system and the Kokopelli Trail. Divided into Upper and Lower units, the campground offers a mix of primitive camping spots equipped with fire rings, concrete picnic tables, and gravel parking. The Lower unit features 12’ x 12’ tent pads and doubles as an event staging area for local races and festivals, while the Upper unit provides 58 sites, including two group areas. Vault toilets are available throughout, but visitors must bring their own water, firewood, and trash bags since there is no electricity or garbage collection service. The terrain is arid desert, characterized by scattered juniper trees and views stretching toward the San Juan and La Sal mountains. Camping is limited to 14 days per site, with a maximum of ten people and two vehicles per individual plot. A volunteer host is typically on-site during spring and fall seasons to assist campers.
