About
The massive gray cliffs of a natural rock amphitheater, formed by ancient volcanic and glacial activity, rise above this 8,400-foot campground just south of Ouray. Perched on the mountainside within the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests, the site offers single-family campsites equipped with picnic tables and campfire rings. Several spots are designated specifically for tent camping only. Essential amenities include vault toilets, drinking water, and trash collection. The location serves as a trailhead for popular hiking routes such as the Upper Cascade Falls Trail, Baby Bath Tubs, and Chief Ouray Mine. Jeep and off-road enthusiasts frequently visit for the exciting trails in the surrounding area. A forest of Gambel oak trees and mixed conifers covers the grounds, providing a scenic backdrop for wildlife viewing and hunting. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis for standard single-family sites, with Recreation Use Fees allowing one camping unit per site.
