Backcountry Experience

Ben Rockis has steered Backcountry Experience for two decades, establishing it as Durango’s largest independent outdoor gear shop. Celebrating its 20th year, the store distinguishes itself as one of the first Osprey Packs Pro Shops and a flagship retailer for Outdoor Research. The showroom displays every model of Osprey pack in all colors, ranging from technical backpacking designs to travel luggage. Staff members include four Masterfit boot fitters who provide custom fitting for footwear, alongside expertise in Nordic, AT, and Telemark skiing. The inventory spans handmade leather hiking boots, lightweight trail runners, sleeping bags, and camping gear. Beyond retail, the shop offers repair services for boots and ski bindings. The eclectic team of backpackers, climbers, and skiers serves the Four Corners region with a focus on fit and function.
