About
Construction on the original log cabins began in 1928 when Ed Budge rode his horse up the White River to find the ideal spot for a lodge. Today, Budge’s Wilderness Lodge sits at the very end of the road in Meeker, surrounded by the Flat Tops Wilderness Area on three sides. The property offers guided horseback adventures, fly fishing, and hunting trips, including a Colorado Orvis-endorsed expedition. Guests stay in seven individual log cabins spaced throughout the property, each with a different footprint. Four cabins sleep up to four people, while three sleep up to six. Each cabin features basic electricity, overhead lights, a simple half-bath with cold running water, and a community shower with hot running water just a short walk away. Meals are served in the main lodge’s dining room, which includes a living area and a large deck overlooking the river canyon. The remote setting provides a rugged wilderness charm where materials were originally brought in on pack animals over Blair Mountain or down Wagon Wheel Trail. Guests can enjoy evenings around the fire on the deck, experiencing the legacy that has welcomed families for generations.
