Florida Mesa Elementary School

The 2022 Governor’s Distinguished Improvement Award recognizes Florida Mesa Elementary School’s status as an innovative learning community in Durango. Serving approximately 280 students from preschool through fifth grade, the school operates within the Durango School District under Principal Andrea Guttormson. The campus mission centers on developing compassionate, open-minded inquirers through equitable opportunities in a safe and diverse environment. Families utilize the 2026-27 Back to School Hub for details on enrollment, supply lists, transportation, and bell schedules. The school actively engages with district initiatives like the SOIL Outdoor Learning Lab and Summer Bridge programs. A major upcoming milestone is the transition to the new Three Springs Elementary School campus in 2028, designed to reflect shared visions for innovation and inclusion. With wheelchair accessibility, parking, and credit card acceptance, Florida Mesa provides a practical setting for the local community.
