Highline Lake State Park

A 738-acre expanse of lush grass and trees serves as the recreation epicenter for the Grand Valley, offering an oasis in the desert just off the Loma exit of Interstate 70. Highline Lake State Park features two distinct bodies of water: Highline Lake and Mack Mesa Lake. While Highline Lake holds a zebra mussel infestation designation, Mack Mesa Lake remains open for fishing, kayaking, and paddleboarding. Visitors accessing the water can utilize the West Boat Ramp or the East Ramp, which is reserved exclusively for hand-launched vessels. The park supports 56 campsites and 105 picnic sites, providing ample space for overnight stays and day trips. Nine point six miles of trails wind through the area, connecting visitors to the surrounding natural features. A retail store located within the Visitor Center operates from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, supplying firewood, ice, and camping essentials. The facility also offers a free Life Jacket Loaner Program to assist guests on the water. Its proximity to local communities makes it an ideal base camp for exploring the broader Grand Junction area.
