Mountaineer Theatre

Young Frankenstein opened our doors in September 1975, launching a legacy that has kept Lake City entertained for nearly five decades. We moved here from downtown Gunnison, bringing with us original film strip wall panel paintings that still flank our single screen today. Our family-owned theater sits at 8,661 feet in elevation, offering a cozy, intimate setting where you can watch first-run blockbusters and classic films year-round. Phil, our owner, is known for his pre-show announcements and special greetings that make every visit feel personal. We provide comfortable seating, restrooms, and ample parking for those driving up from the valley. Our concessions stand serves fresh popcorn, cotton candy, beverages, and snacks to keep you fueled during the feature presentation. In 2012, we underwent extensive renovations that preserved our vintage charm while upgrading our technology. Guests often return not just for the movies, but for the community gatherings and special events we host right here in our quaint mountain town. Locals and visitors alike find an affordable and unique cinematic experience that feels like home.
