About
Established in 1899 as the first Elks lodge on Colorado’s Western Slope, Ouray Elks Lodge #492 occupies a building constructed in 1905 that anchors our local history. We gather every second and fourth Thursday at 6:30 pm for meetings, while bowling leagues have shifted their start time to :00 pm to wrap up earlier. Our calendar fills with community traditions, including the annual Easter egg hunt held at Fellin Park and the Halloween festivities that bring neighbors together. We celebrate the Fourth of July with a morning Bloody Mary bar followed by a barbecue after the parade, and we honor veterans by placing flags at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Volunteer members manage the bar, kitchen, and cleaning duties to keep the lodge running smoothly. Eric Havelick serves as Exalted Ruler, leading a team that includes Treasurer Liz Owens and Kitchen Manager Phil “Bombie” Martinez. Whether we are hosting events or maintaining our historic space, we remain a cornerstone of civic life in Ouray.
