Outlaw Restaurant

Our front sign has hung since 1968, marking the spot where high altitude fine dining meets authentic Western Outlaw style. We occupy the historic Cresto & Martin Building, constructed between 1908 and 1910 on land purchased from the City of Ouray in 1877. This structure originally housed a meat market and dry goods store during the mining boom, later serving as the Free Coinage Saloon until Prohibition in 1916. A Rio Grande Trailways bus crashed through our front door in 1946, destroying the original bar, but we rebuilt and reopened by 1947. Joe Bonatti, whose family immigrated from the Tyrolean region of Northern Italy, played a key role in our early history. Today, we offer lunch from 10:30am to 2pm (Thursday through Monday) and dinner from 4pm to 9pm (Monday through Sunday). Guests often gather around our live piano, where John Wayne once left his hat hanging at the bar. We continue to serve Chef’s specials that honor Ouray County’s mining and ranching heritage, providing a wholesome experience on Main Street for locals and visitors alike.
