Over the Hill Outfitters

The Palmer Quarter Horse Ranch on the Florida River has been home to the Palmer family since 1952, serving as the base for Over the Hill Outfitters for decades. We are Randy, Kelly, and Terry Palmer, three generations of horsemen who guide guests through the surrounding wilderness. Our herd of over 60 horses thrives near Durango, offering trail rides and pack trips that reflect deep local knowledge. Terry, who began breeding Quarter Horses in 1960, leads the rides with a sense of humor honed by years in the Weminuche Wilderness. Randy, a former National High School Rodeo Association finalist, grew up riding the same routes his father took. We operated out of this ranch until our recent decision to retire from guiding, closing a chapter that began in 1998. Our focus remains on reliability and pleasure, ensuring every guest experiences the best trail ride available at any price.
