About
Housed in the historic Rehder Building on 8th and Lincoln, the Steamboat Art Museum has served Northwest Colorado since opening its doors in December 2006. A group of local artists and supporters founded the institution in 2004, and the building itself, originally constructed in 1905 with a 1920 addition, was bequeathed to the city by Helen and Henry Rehder specifically to serve as a museum. Major renovations completed between 2009 and 2017 transformed the structure into a dedicated exhibition space, studio, and library. We present fine art reflecting the culture and heritage of the region, including our annual Plein Air Event in autumn and two major exhibits featuring top-tier artists each year. Our programming includes juried exhibitions, such as the upcoming Oil Painters of America 35th National Juried Exhibition running from May 29 to August 29, 2026, which selects works from roughly 1,800 submissions. Visitors enjoy free admission to explore over 45 exhibitions and attend events like The Painted Words Awards & Readings Reception. Beyond the galleries, our historic venue hosts private events, fundraisers, meetings, and parties, offering an elegant backdrop for celebrations. We have welcomed over 150,000 visitors and program participants through our doors, continuing our mission to present fine art to the public in Steamboat Springs.
