The Mountain Valley Weavers
About
Since 1996, the upstairs studio at 209 8th Street in Glenwood Springs has housed The Mountain Valley Weavers, where adults with disabilities craft handwoven goods on looms. Originally launched in 1988 as a vocational program by Mountain Valley Developmental Services, the initiative received its start with three looms gifted by a local Aspen family. Today, the Weavers produce a diverse inventory of functional home goods, including phone purses, market bags, and totes ranging from $27 to $95. Kitchen essentials such as oven mitts, hot pads, and towels are available for $25 to $38, while clothing items like aprons, ponchos, scarves, and shrugs fall between $65 and $105. These pieces, characterized by bright colors and intricate patterns, serve as both decorative accents and practical tools for the home. The retail space sits above the Bleu Door boutique, accessible either through the shop or via stairs located between pizza restaurant doors. The organization supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities across Eagle, Garfield, Lake, and Pitkin counties, turning traditional weaving techniques into a celebration of individuality and resilience with every purchase.
