The Powerhouse

Housed in a repurposed 1893 power plant along the Animas River, The Powerhouse serves as Southwest Colorado’s STEAM engine in Durango. This museum transforms a once-blighted industrial structure into a dynamic learning center where visitors of all ages engage with interactive exhibits and traveling displays from accredited museums nationwide. The facility emphasizes hands-on discovery through camps, after-school programs, and internships designed to inspire young scientists. Beyond permanent installations, the venue hosts weekly community concerts on the Carver Family Plaza, such as the summer series presented by Carver Brewing, which doubles as a fundraiser for local non-profits. The space also features the WonderLab Early Learning Center and offers membership options that include unlimited access to ever-changing exhibits and early registration for educational programs.
