About
Housed in the historic Zimmerman House, The Tread of Pioneers Museum serves as Steamboat Springs' primary repository for local heritage. Visitors explore detailed exhibits covering the origins of winter sports, the area's famous mineral springs, and American Indian art through The Pleasant Collection. Current displays include paintings by Chula Beauregard celebrating a year with the Colorado Cattlemen's Agricultural Land Trust and an exhibit honoring 25 years of local family history. The museum actively engages the public through seasonal programming, including Olympic Heritage Tours led by Olympian Ben Berend at Howelsen Hill, Mineral Springs Walking Tours, and downtown historical walks. Additional community events such as History Happy Hours, the Festival of Trees, and First Friday Artwalks keep the calendar full. The on-site Museum Store offers a curated selection of cookbooks, children's books and toys, and other local goods. Educational outreach extends to schools and homeschooled students through dedicated after-school programs.
