West Routt Library District

The West Routt Library District has served Hayden residents since November 1930, when the Women’s Club of Hayden launched this civic project in a small room behind Ralph Whittaker’s drugstore. High school students built the initial bookshelves from donated lumber, and 318 books were gifted during a celebratory tea that raised $7.50. After moving to the Central Hotel’s sitting room for six dollars a month, the library eventually grew into its current facility. Today, the library offers free access to the New York Times, courtesy of the Friends of the Library, alongside streaming services like Kanopy. Patrons can attend Preschool Story Hour every Wednesday at 11 am for stories and crafts, or join the Writers Workshop on Thursdays with provided snacks. A Grief Support Group meets on the first and third Mondays at 2 pm, facilitated by Annette Della Croce. The library provides computer services including free scanning and affordable printing at $.15 per page, with faxing available for $1.00. A community room is free to all by appointment, and an outside garden area offers additional space for public use. Free books are available on shelves both inside and out, with new items added weekly. The library also offers e-books, e-audiobooks, and online ordering options.
