About
A 134-mile stretch of the Yampa River defines Yampa River State Park, extending from Hayden westward to the Utah border near Dinosaur National Monument. Thirteen distinct access points allow visitors to engage with the river along its entire course, while the park headquarters near Hayden serves as the primary hub for information and supplies. The Visitor Center, situated at the Headquarters campground, features displays highlighting Native American history, agricultural heritage, and river ecology, alongside a small store stocking books, clothing, and miscellaneous supplies. The park encompasses 163 acres, offering 60 campsites and 1.5 miles of trails for exploration. Located in the Yampa Valley west of Steamboat Springs, the park sits near Elkhead Reservoir State Park, Stagecoach State Park, and the Routt National Forest. The Yampa River itself is recognized as one of the most hydrologically and biologically intact rivers in the region, providing a unique setting for outdoor recreation.
