Yellow Car Country Wines & Meads

A 1-gallon container of apple wine launched Yellow Car Country Wines & Meads in 2016, evolving into a small-batch winery in Cortez that now produces 100% fruit wines and meads. The menu rotates frequently, offering dry, semi-sweet, and sweet varieties that sell out as new flavors are added. Guests can order a tasting flight of five wines, buy individual glasses or bottles for the road, and utilize the on-site tasting room. The outdoor patio welcomes friendly pets and allows patrons to bring their own snacks or order from partner local restaurants. Owners Jean and her husband transitioned the business from a hobby to a licensed enterprise in September 2019, with their state license arriving just days before a successful debut at the Dolores Harvest Fest. The name Yellow Car reflects a family game invented by Jean, involving kisses for spotting yellow vehicles, while their motto remains "a kiss on the cheek." Situated within the Trail of the Ancients region, the winery serves as a destination for travelers exploring Mesa Verde National Park and the San Juan Skyway.
