What draws a singer-songwriter like Jonatha Brooke to a place like Basalt, where the Rocky Mountains meet the sky and the rivers flow with a gentle, soothing melody, and how will her unique sound, a blend of folk, rock, and pop, resonate with the local audience, as she takes the stage at The Arts Campus at Willits on May 1, in a show that promises to be a dynamic, unforgettable experience, with a mix of old and new favorites, as well as songs from three musicals in development, a true display of her boundless creativity and innovative spirit, which has been evident throughout her career, spanning decades and numerous albums, including her 14th, "The Sweetwater Sessions," released in 2020, and her work on off-Broadway, one-woman musical "My Mother Has 4 Noses," and other musical theater projects, such as "Switched" and "TEMPUS," collaborations that showcase her versatility and talent as a songwriter and performer, and will undoubtedly be on full display during her upcoming show, as she weaves songs and stories, with the help of her touring partner of 12 years, Sean Driscoll, on guitar and vocals, creating an intimate, immersive experience, that will leave a lasting impression on all who attend, and Brooke herself notes, "It will be rock, it will be tender, it will be funny," a promise that is sure to be fulfilled, given her passion for being on stage, and singing her songs for a live audience, which she describes as her "deepest love," and one that she has been able to share with fans, through her frequent songwriting, often inspired by her surroundings, and the people she meets, as evidenced by her song "Inconsolable," a fan favorite, that features an epic guitar solo by Driscoll, and other popular songs, like "So Much Mine," and "Because I Told You So," all of which demonstrate her ability to craft meaningful, relatable lyrics, and soaring melodies, that have captivated audiences, and earned her numerous awards, and accolades, including the grand prize at the 2019 International Acoustic Music Awards, and Best Female Artist, for her song "Put the Gun Down," a recognition of her talent, and dedication to her craft, which is also evident in her collaborations, with other artists, like Katy Perry, with whom she co-wrote "Choose Your Battles," featured on Perry's 2013 album "Prism," her skill as a songwriter is clear in this collaboration, and as she prepares to take the stage, in Basalt, it's clear, that this will be a show, that will be worth the drive, from anywhere, in the valley, and one that will leave you feeling, like you've experienced something special, something that will stay with you, long after the music ends, and the lights go down, the energy, the excitement, the sense of community, that comes together, to enjoy, and appreciate, the beauty, of live music, and the art, of storytelling, through song, Brooke says, "I'm an open book," ready to share, her stories, and her songs, with anyone, who will listen, the night wears on, and the music fills the air, you can't help but be drawn in by the warmth of her voice, and the sincerity of her words, when the show comes to a close, you're left with a sense of wonder, and a feeling that you've been a part of something truly special, looking up at the stars, you can still hear the music echoing in your mind, a reminder of the power of art to touch, and transform, our lives, the night fades away, leaving behind the sound of her voice, and the memory of a truly unforgettable evening with Jonatha Brooke.
