    Western Slope Teams Make Waves in Sports

    Western Slope teams, including Battle Mountain and Eagle Valley, are making a name for themselves in their respective sports, with notable achievements and upcoming games.

    Battle Mountain's girls soccer team is now 8-2-1 after tying Pueblo West 4-4 on Saturday. Freshman Olivia Goldberg scored twice — Ruthie Casey and Yeimi Castillo also scored. The Huskies are ranked ninth in 4A. They haven't lost in seven games.

    Their next game is against Glenwood Springs on April 16. The Western Slope league leaders will look to keep their streak alive. Pueblo West moved to 6-3-1 with the tie. The Huskies' performance is worth watching — they're a team on the rise.

    Eagle Valley's baseball team had a big weekend. They defeated Rifle 20-12 in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday. Xander DeHerrera went 2-for-4 with two triples and four RBI. Ricardo Gutierrez added three hits and three runs scored. The Devils won the first game 8-6 in extra innings. Eagle Valley is now 8-2, they host Steamboat Springs on Wednesday.

    Battle Mountain's baseball team also won two games over the weekend. They defeated Moffat County 17-0 and 24-9. Jack Reed struck out 10 in a four-inning shutout in game 1. Wake Youngblood had 2 hits, a home run, and four RBI in game 2. The Huskies are now 5-2-1. They'll face Eagle Valley in Gypsum on May 6.

    Vail Mountain School's soccer team lost to Mullen 3-1 on Saturday. The Rangers are now 4-3; they travel to Steamboat Springs on Tuesday. Mari Renick found Solveig Moritz for the team's lone score. Mullen is ranked 24th in 4A.

    The Vail Christian girls soccer team lost to Flatirons Academy 5-0 on Saturday. They're now 3-5-1 - they'll try to get back in the win column against Colorado Rocky Mountain on Tuesday.

    In boys lacrosse, Aspen defeated Battle Mountain 9-8 on Saturday. Nate Moatz scored three times for the Skiers. Aspen is now 7-1. they're ranked seventh. Battle Mountain is 7-3, they're ranked ninth. The Huskies will look to bounce back from this loss.
