Main Street Steamboat Farmer’s Market Launches 2026 Season

The Main Street Steamboat Farmer’s Market opens its 2026 season on June 6 with 150 vendors, featuring new offerings like coconut macaroons and elk bolognese sauce to drive local economic engagement.

The air on Main Street smells like diesel exhaust and anticipation. It’s 7 a.m. on Saturday, June 6. The sun hasn’t quite cleared the Elk Mountains, but the tents are already up. Vendors are hauling crates of produce from trucks that have been idling since dawn.

The Main Street Steamboat Farmer’s Market opens its doors. It’s the start of the 2026 season. Expect 150 vendors. That’s a lot of booths. That’s a lot of noise.

Lisa Popovich, executive director of Main Street Steamboat, says the lineup is shifting. Seventy-five to 80 percent of vendors show up every week. The other 20 percent? They change. They rotate. They come and go.

“We do that so that the locals always have something to look forward to and something new to try or see,” Popovich said.

It’s a strategy to keep the market from becoming stale. It’s also a way to force locals to spend money on things they didn’t know they needed. This year, the market is pushing reusable mugs. Buy one, get a dollar off at the lemonade stands. It’s a small nudge toward sustainability. Or maybe it’s just a way to sell more plastic-free containers to tourists who forgot their cups at the hotel.

There’s live music this weekend. Master Gardeners are set up at the hub — that’s Main Street Steamboat’s stand in the parking lot. Kids can play market bingo. It’s all designed to make the experience feel like an event, not just a transaction.

All proceeds go to Main Street Steamboat. That money funds other events. The Halloween Stroll, for instance. It’s a cycle of spending that keeps the local economy humming.

Maureen Totman is excited. She’s been selling cowhide bags for years. This year, she’s adding coconut macaroons. Chocolate. White chocolate. Soft granola with cranberries, blueberries, almonds, and coconut.

“The whole vibe of the place is just fun,” Totman said.

Totman admits she’s more of a cook than a baker. The macaroons are an old family recipe. She started making them for friends. The demand grew. Now she sells them at Elevated Olive, Community Agriculture Alliance, Drunken Onion, and Central Park Liquor. She wants to scale up. She wants to open a factory in Steamboat.

“It’s a totally different gig,” she said.

Aspen Provisions is a new vendor. The Carbondale-based company sells exclusively elk bolognese pasta sauce. They expanded to Vail and Steamboat this year. Owner Andrew Matuszeski says the vision is about creating food products that are “uniquely local.” He wants to stimulate conversation about local history, culture, and ecology.

The elk meat is 100 percent from a Colorado ranch. It’s farm-raised. It’s processed at USDA supervised butchery standards. Matuszeski founded the business after retiring. He traveled. He ate. He wanted to bring that connection home. The bolognese started as a meal for his family.

It’s not just about the food. It’s about the people. Popovich is looking forward to seeing the faces she missed all winter. Totman feels the same. The market is a social hub. It’s a place to see neighbors. It’s a place to buy things that cost more than you expect.

The short version: The market is open. The vendors are ready. The locals are waiting.

There’s a lot of ambition for a Saturday morning.

The market runs from June 6 through the fall. If you want to see what’s new, go early. The parking lot fills up. The music starts. The mugs sell out.

Just don’t expect it to be cheap.

The question is whether the new vendors can sustain the momentum. Or if the novelty wears off by August. Popovich says the rotation keeps things fresh. Totman hopes her macaroons become a staple. Matuszeski wants to build a factory.

It’s a significant amount of ambition for a Saturday morning.
