Snowflakes are still falling gently on the slopes of Vail, but the town is already buzzing with excitement as it prepares to host the 35th anniversary of the Taste of Vail. The sound of clinking glasses and sizzling skillets fills the air as locals and visitors alike look forward to a four-day celebration of food, wine, and mountain charm. The smell of freshly brewed coffee wafts through the streets, enticing passersby to stop and sample the local flavors.

As the Roaring Fork Valley waits for the Food & Wine Classic to kick off in June, folks around here are getting a head start on the culinary festivities. The Taste of Vail, founded in 1990 by a group of local culinary enthusiasts, has become a beloved tradition in the valley. Executive Director Angela Mueller notes that this year's event will be held at the Vail Golf Course, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains (and a much-needed break from the crowds). "This is the first year we will be at the golf course," Mueller says. "Other than the mountain, it has the best views in Vail, and we really want to showcase that this year."

The event kicks off on Wednesday evening, April 1, with an intimate wine tasting, "The Vail Pour," and continues through Saturday, April 4, with a pair of Grand Tastings. In between, attendees can enjoy exceptional wine dinners, wine seminars led by top winemakers and sommeliers, and signature group gatherings like the always-popular Après Tasting & Chef Competition. Not exactly your average food festival - the Taste of Vail has a reputation for being one of the most enjoyable and laid-back events of its kind. And that matters because it's an experience that locals and visitors can enjoy together, savoring the best of Vail's culinary scene.

Picture this: over 100 wines from 46 attending wineries, paired with the creations of Vail's top chefs, all set against the stunning backdrop of the Rocky Mountains. The Mountaintop Tasting at Eagle's Nest at Lionshead is the highlight of the event, where vintners will debut their newly-released rosé wines from the most recent vintage. It's a truly unique experience, with the added bonus of being held at 10,350 feet in elevation. Here's the thing, though - the Taste of Vail is more than just a food and wine festival; it's a celebration of community and the beauty of the natural surroundings.

As the event approaches, anticipation builds. Tickets are available online, and attendees can customize their experience by choosing the events that interest them most. A Signature Pass, priced at $560, grants access to all the marquee events, from the Opening Vail Pour to the Mountaintop Tasting. For those who can't make it to all the events, individual tickets are also available. The flexibility of the ticketing system makes the event accessible to everyone, which is a key part of the organizers' commitment to inclusivity.

The 35th anniversary of the Taste of Vail is a milestone worth celebrating, and Vail pulls out all the stops to make it a memorable experience. As the snow melts away, revealing the lush green slopes of the mountains, the stage is set for a truly unforgettable event. And as the sun sets over the Rockies, casting a warm glow over the landscape, it's clear that this is an event that will leave a lasting impression on all who attend.

The sound of laughter and conversation fills the air as people gather to enjoy the festivities. The smell of food wafts through the streets, enticing passersby to stop and sample the local flavors. It's a truly sensory experience, one that will leave attendees feeling satisfied and already looking forward to next year's event. As the night draws to a close, the mountains tower above, a reminder of the beauty and wonder of the natural world, bathed in a warm, golden light.
