As I sit on the sun-kissed shores of the Colorado River, the warm breeze carries the sweet scent of blooming cottonwoods, and the sound of children's laughter echoes through the valley, I am reminded of the gentle trade winds that caress the Caribbean coast, where columnist Voboril recently found himself, sipping piña coladas and soaking up the laid-back atmosphere of Club Med Punta Cana. The vibrant colors of the surrounding landscape, a kaleidoscope of pinks, oranges, and purples, seem to dance in the fading light of day, as the sky is set aflame by the setting sun, and I am drawn into the tranquil world that Voboril describes, where the trilingual shouts of children and the Latin beats from the bar area blend together in a joyful cacophony.

Voboril's account of his time at this resort is a unique blend of relaxation and reflection, as he and his partner, Violet, indulge in the luxury of doing very little, their days filled with reading, sailing, and snorkeling, surrounded by the gentle lapping of the waves against the shore, and the warm glow of the tropical sun. As they unwind and recharge, Voboril reflects on the path not taken, the road that wound its way through his college years, spent at the Turks & Caicos location, and the memories come flooding back, like the ebb and flow of the tide. His decision to pursue a legal career, rather than becoming a sailing G.O., has led him down a path of fulfillment and adventure, one that has allowed him to travel the world, to experience the beauty and diversity of different cultures, and to find a sense of purpose and meaning in his work, and yet, as he sits on the veranda, surrounded by the vibrant colors and sounds of the Caribbean, he can't help but wonder what might have been, if he had taken that other road.

The experience, with its emphasis on community, activity, and joie de vivre, is a world unto itself, where the boundaries between work and play are blurred, and the senses are constantly engaged, and Voboril's story shows how this unique environment can shape and transform people, challenging their assumptions, and broadening their horizons. As I sit on the shores of the Colorado River, watching the stars begin to twinkle in the night sky, I am reminded of the importance of taking time to relax, to recharge, and to reflect on the choices we've made, and the paths we've taken, and the memories that we've created along the way, like the gentle lapping of the waves against the shore, a soothing melody that stays with me long after the sun has dipped below the horizon.
