Durango, CO: **The City of Durango has been officially nominated in two categories for the 2026 Best in Governance Awards, a national recognition program hosted by Polco, a community engagement and data insights platform.
The awards honor local governments across the United States that demonstrate responsible leadership and a commitment to community livability. In each category, only a handful of nominees are selected out of hundreds (or for some categories, thousands) of communities nationwide. Durango is among a select group of nominees chosen for standout achievements. The city has secured nominations in the following categories:
The Voice of the People – Transformation in Mobility: Recognizing the highest ratings or the biggest improvements in local transportation and transit infrastructure based on the resident feedback from The National Community Survey®. Other nominees include Estes Park, CO; Kearney, MO; Plymouth, MN; and Redwood City, CA.
The Voice of the People – Excellence in Parks and Recreation: Honoring the city for achieving the highest resident ratings in community livability, park spaces, and recreational programming. Additional nominees include Golden, CO; Gulf Breeze, FL; Shoreview, MN; and Suwanee, GA.
The categories highlight municipalities that effectively use data and community input to drive real-world improvements. Only a handful of finalists are selected in each category, with one national champion ultimately chosen for each award.
