The City has been under Tier 1 since June 5, 2026. The plan asked residents to voluntarily reduce outdoor water use as low water conditions continued to affect Western Colorado.
The goal of Tier 1 was to achieve a 10 percent reduction in water use through voluntary conservation efforts. While the City is transitioning out of the plan, residents are encouraged to continue practicing water-wise habits that help preserve local water resources while maintaining healthy landscapes.
Residents can help conserve water by following these lawn-watering tips:
Water lawns during the early morning or evening hours to reduce evaporation.
Water deeply and less frequently to encourage healthy root growth.
Avoid watering during or immediately after rainfall.
Adjust irrigation systems as temperatures cool and seasonal water needs decrease.
Check irrigation systems regularly for leaks, broken sprinkler heads or other sources of water waste.
The City of Rifle appreciates the community's cooperation and commitment to water conservation during the 2026 drought conditions. City staff will continue to monitor water supply conditions and provide updates as needed.
