Jared Prochnow to Fill Fruita City Council Vacancy
Last night, Jared Prochnow was sworn in to serve the open vacancy on the Fruita City Council, following the City Council’s public process. The process included receiving applications for the vacancy over several weeks and then interviewing applicants. In total, the City Council received nine applications, reviewed all of the applications, and interviewed four applicants. On Wednesday, June 3, 2026, the Fruita City Council held interviews for the City Council vacancy. Following the interviews, the City Council recommended appointing Jared Prochnow to fill the vacancy. That recommendation was formally approved at the June 16, 2026 City Council meeting.
The vacancy came after Councilmember James Williams resigned from the Council at the City Council meeting on May 5, 2026, after announcing he had moved outside of city limits. James Williams was elected in the April 2026 election to serve a second four-year term. Jared Prochnow will fill the position until the next regular municipal election in April 2028. The application for the City Council vacancy was open from May 6, 2026, until May 22, 2026.

About Fruita City Council
The City of Fruita is a Home Rule City with a Council-Manager form of government. The six-member elected City Council makes policy decisions and enacts legislation while a professional City Manager carries out the council's policies and administers the city government. The Mayor is the political head of city government, presiding over City Council meetings, representing the City at public functions and exercising other powers. The Fruita City Council conducts regular meetings on the first and third Tuesday of each month and holds a workshop on the 4th Tuesday of each month.
Jared Prochnow’s Bio
As a native of Colorado, a local to the Grand Valley for 26 years and a Fruita resident for 11 years, I have had the honor to raise my family in this community. My husband and I have been lucky enough to foster 90+ children in Fruita, adopting six along the way. Fruita has been the perfect place to teach our children what family and community means. I served on the Downtown Advisory Board until its sunset as a member and eventually the Chair, bringing back the amazing Christmas Lighting Ceremony to kick off the holiday season. I also served on the Juvenile Parole Board for the State of Colorado for 7 years as a citizen member and eventually Chair for 3 years helping to reintegrate Colorado youth into our communities in a safe and equitable manner. I currently serve as the Chair for the Board of Directors for Loving Beyond Understanding which is a queer advocacy and needs navigation organization serving the Western Slope. I have always held the philosophy that if I have the heart and the home, I have the obligation to serve. Service to others is something that runs in my family. My mother was a teacher for School District 51 for many years and my sister is a nurse. I believe that our community is our greatest resource. We all have what we need to make this community successful and supportive, and through the leadership of myself and my fellow councilors, we will see to it that that your success is always a priority.
