Male Arrested for Assaulting Officer During DUI Crash

Grand Junction, CO – On July 10, 2026, at approximately 7:20 a.m., officers with the Grand Junction Police Department responded to a two-vehicle crash in the 2400 block of HWY 6 and 50.

Officers arrived on scene to find a Jeep in the median of HWY 6 and 50, and another vehicle stopped in the westbound lanes. Officers determined the driver of the Jeep was traveling the wrong way down the westbound 24 Road off-ramp when it entered oncoming traffic and collided with another vehicle.

During the investigation, the driver of the Jeep, identified as 55-year-old George Miller, suspected of being intoxicated, assaulted a responding officer and was ultimately taken into custody. Miller was transported to a local hospital for evaluation of minor injuries, and the two occupants of the other vehicle had no reported injuries. The officer sustained minor injuries and was evaluated on scene.

Once medically cleared from the hospital, Miller was transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility where he was booked on the following charges:

  • Second Degree Assault on a Police Officer

  • DUI – Drove Vehicle Under the Influence

  • Obstructing a Peace Officer

  • Resisting Arrest

  • Reckless Driving

  • No Insurance in Possession

  • Driving Under Restraint

This case remains under investigation and there is no additional information available at this time.
