Construction projects and events that will impact traffic the week of October 26: E. 8th Street block alley improvements**

  • Work will be on E. 8th Street between E. 4th and E. 5th Avenues beginning Monday, October 26.

  • Nighttime work will take place from 2 a.m. to 3 a.m. on October 27 and will require a full closure of E. 8th Street, with intermittent daytime closures throughout the remainder of the project.

  • The project is expected to take approximately six weeks.

  • Motorists should use alternative routes through the surrounding street grid and use caution in the area.

**Roosa Safety and Connectivity Project **
Project Summary:
The project includes approximately 1,300 feet of new sidewalk on the east side of Roosa Avenue and 9th Street to the Riverbridge Apartments; intersection improvements at Avenida Del Sol and El Paso Street; protected bike lanes; ADA ramp upgrades; transit stop improvements; asphalt milling and overlay; and updated pavement markings to reconfigure traffic flow. The project is expected to be completed by the end of November.

  • Construction will be along Roosa Avenue from Monday, October 26, through Friday, October 30, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Work will take place near 9th Street, with lane restrictions and possible closures between 9th Street and El Paso Street.

  • Avenida Del Sol will remain closed for utility work.

  • The transit stop near Manna Soup Kitchen remains open.

Animas River Trail Phase 2 (see below for map)

  • Phase 2 has started on rebuilding the spur trail between the Animas River Trail and Rio Vista Circle. The spur trail will be closed.

  • Demon Bridge will remain open during this portion of the construction. Crews will construct the abutments in preparation for the new bridge installation next spring.

  • Additional vegetation clearing will take place on the west side of the river in accordance with environmental permit requirements to protect the endangered New Mexico meadow jumping mouse. The clearing is being conducted proactively to discourage the establishment of winter hibernation nests in the project area and will occur under the direction of environmental specialists.

  • Trail users should follow the detour signs.

  • This phase is expected to continue for 2-3 months.

Wilson Gulch Drive (see below for map)
Project Summary:
New utility infrastructure will extend to the current Spur Line Trailhead, and the existing gravel road will be replaced with a new two-lane paved roadway with a raised median. Once complete, the new pavement will extend past the trailhead and connect to Prospector Avenue (East). This work precedes the construction of the upcoming Three Springs Elementary School for the Durango School District. Construction is anticipated to last through November.

  • Starting at the roundabout at Confluence Avenue, Wilson Gulch Drive is closed for major road and utility upgrades.

  • Public trail access will remain available through the project. Parking will be permitted along the south side of Prospector Avenue.
