About

Angel of Death is a difficult sport climbing route located in the Master's Wall area of Boulder Canyon, near Silverton, Colorado. The route is rated 5.11d (7a) and is situated on hard gneiss rock featuring technical incut edges, sidepulls, and rails. The crag sits at an elevation of approximately 11,400 feet. Access requires a short approach from the parking area on CR 4; climbers cross the Animas River, take the left fork past the Stony Pass turnoff, and follow a trail up an erosion gully. The area is open year-round, though winter conditions require appropriate gear. Seasonal closures for golden eagle nesting typically affect specific routes in the vicinity from February through July, with status varying by year and specific sub-area (Blob, Bitty Buttress, Eagle Rock, etc.). Climbers should verify current USFS closure signs for the specific sector they intend to climb. Parking is available at the trailhead, and the area is generally pet friendly, though restrictions may apply to the main wall access.
