About

North Twilight Peak is a 13,084-foot Class 2 summit in the San Juan Mountains, located just west of Silverton, Colorado. The standard approach accesses the peak via the Andrews Lake Trailhead, reachable by any passenger vehicle. Drivers take US 550 north from Silverton, turn off at the signed Andrews Lake junction, and follow the paved road to a lower day-use parking area. A higher parking lot, suitable for backpackers and overnight groups, sits further up the road and includes vault toilets and picnic tables. From the lower lot, the trail to Crater Lake is approximately 5.25 miles one way. The climb to the North Twilight Peak summit itself is described as a pleasurable, scenic Class 2 route, typically taking around one hour from the lake area. The terrain is steep and rocky with limited vegetation at high elevation. The peak is often combined with nearby Twilight Peak, South Twilight, and West Needle Mountain for longer excursions. Primitive and designated camping are available at Crater Lake. The trail is accessible year-round.
