About

The Trinity Pass Route is a 5.34-mile point-to-point hiking trail in Silverton, Colorado, classified as difficult with an elevation of 9,633 feet. The route begins at Trinity Lake and crosses three passes to reach the valley containing Lake Silex. The total elevation gain is 3,926 feet, and the typical duration is approximately four hours. Parking is available at the trailhead. The terrain involves boulders, loose rocks, exposure, and some cliffs. The east side of Trinity Pass features loose shale where steps dislodge rocks but offers no exposure. The west side follows cairn-marked ledges between cliffs. After passing Vestral Lake and Wham Ridge, the route turns south toward an unnamed pass with steep, loose rocks on the north side and cairn-marked boulder fields on the south. The final mile above Balsam Creek takes an hour or more. The trail is accessible year-round, though conditions vary. It is recommended as a day hike or part of the longer Trinity and Silex Lake Overnight Loop. Hikers should bring snacks, water, and proper outerwear.
