About
The Aspen Loop is a mountain biking route primarily located near Mancos and Montrose in the San Juan Mountains of Western Colorado, distinct from the larger Aspen-Snowmass area. The specific trailhead referenced by local data is a short, approximately 0.6-mile loop situated off CO-90 W. Riders access the trail by turning left onto FSR 549 after the Divide Road intersection and parking in a large field. The route is rated moderate and is suitable for beginner to intermediate riders. It features singletrack through aspen groves and offers views of Lone Cone and the western San Juans. Cell phone reception is available at the overlook. The trail is open from April through October, though conditions may vary with snow or mud in shoulder months. Parking is available, and the trail is pet-friendly. Note that the name 'Aspen Loop' is also used for much larger 18-mile and 30+ mile OHV and bikepacking routes in the Mancos and Hesperus areas, which are doubletrack-heavy and technical. This description applies specifically to the short, recreational loop near Montrose/Mancos.
