About
The Aspen Snowmass Mega Loop is a challenging 58 to 60+ mile mountain biking route connecting Aspen and Snowmass Village. The IMBA Epic designation reflects its status as a significant endurance ride, featuring approximately 8,900 to nearly 10,000 feet of total elevation gain and loss. The trail network includes 19 distinct trails, mixing smooth singletrack with technical sections containing rock gardens, roots, and steep ascents. Max elevation reaches 10,075 feet. The route is accessible from April through October, though winter restrictions may close specific segments like the Government Trail during elk calving season in May and June. Parking is available at trailheads near downtown Aspen, the Inn at Aspen, and the Snowmass Recreation Center. Water refueling is available at Home Team BBQ near Buttermilk, the Aspen Airport Business Center, Snowmass Recreation Center, and Snowmass Mall. The terrain transitions from aspen groves and dark timber forests to sage fields, grassy meadows, and alpine zones. The loop is suitable for experienced riders with high fitness levels, though it remains a continuous ride rather than a series of disconnected laps.
