The Barracks is a rock climbing area located near Aspen, Colorado, on the Western Slope. The site sits at an elevation of 10,060 feet and offers moderate difficulty routes suitable for climbers with some experience. Parking is available on site, and the area allows pets. Climbing operations are accessible year-round, with guided services operating daily from January through December. Aspen Expeditions provides private rock climbing instruction and trips in the area, offering short day options lasting approximately four hours and full-day experiences up to six hours. These guided trips cater to all skill levels, from beginners to experts, and include necessary technical equipment such as helmets, harnesses, ropes, and packs. The climbing venues are situated approximately 15 to 30 minutes from downtown Aspen, with meeting points available at the Aspen Highlands Base Village or via residence pickup. While specific route grades vary across nearby areas like Independence Pass and Rifle, the Barracks is characterized by its moderate classification. Climbers should bring their own lunch and water, as these are not included in guided packages.
