About

The Blue Lakes Trailhead parking lot in Ridgway, Colorado, provides access to a moderate out-and-back hike through the Mt. Sneffels Wilderness. The trail leads to three glacial lakes known for their turquoise water, situated in a hanging valley with Mount Sneffels (14,150 ft) visible in the background. The route is approximately 8.6 miles round trip with an elevation gain of roughly 2,500 feet, typically taking between two and six hours depending on how many lakes are visited. Most hikers stop at the Lower Blue Lake, which is a reservoir accessible within 3.5 miles and about two hours of walking. The trail extends to Middle and Upper Blue Lakes, adding distance and elevation. Fall hiking from September through November is recommended due to milder weather and visible foliage. The trailhead features a recently completed parking lot and restrooms, with no shuttle service or reservations required. Pets are permitted on the trail.
