Boyd Lake State Park in Loveland offers a moderate fall hiking experience centered on trails surrounding the 1,700-acre lake. Located at an elevation of 4,984 feet near the western edge of the plains and the foot of Long's Peak, the park provides scenic views of water and mountains. The typical hike lasts about two hours and runs from September through November, coinciding with peak foliage in cottonwoods and other deciduous trees. Trails are well-maintained, featuring a mix of paved and dirt surfaces with gentle to moderate slopes. The park connects directly to the City of Loveland’s recreation trail system at both its north and south ends. Parking is available, though a fee is required for vehicles. Leashed dogs, service animals, and horses are permitted on the trails. Restrooms are accessible near the parking areas. While water sports remain popular, boating is currently suspended due to low water levels, though hand-launched vessels like kayaks and paddleboards are allowed. The park operates daily from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.
