The Bridge of Heaven is a moderate to strenuous hiking destination near Ouray, Colorado, on the Western Slope. The trail climbs approximately 3,000 feet to a narrow ridge at 12,300 feet. This elevation gain occurs over roughly four miles of well-engineered path through coniferous pines and aspen. The route follows the Horsethief Trail, transitioning from a level path to switchbacks before reaching the ridge. The destination offers panoramic views of the Cimarron Range, the Sneffels Range, and Red Mountain Pass. Access requires four-wheel drive to cross Dexter Creek and navigate the final 2.2 miles of rough road to the parking area. The hike typically takes about two hours for experienced hikers, though full round-trip distance extends to eight miles. The trail is open from September through November and permits pets.
